TIDES, TURBULENCE AND TAILWINDS
by Lorne Christensen
ABOUT THE BOOK
Reflections on a life well lived. Lorne has undertaken a challenge to produce a very well organized chronological story of his life and the significant role that two of many played chasing his dream to become an aviator. Lorne writes in his own easy style. Following the history of his family and his father’s nautical involvement, Lorne becomes attached to the marine lifestyle about Vancouver Island. His stories of his 5 years as an Airframe Technician with the RCAF and the life influences by his Station Commander G/C Cam Mussels frame the fun, dedication and discipline of his character. His return to the West Coast and service on CNAV vessels, recounting the day when the Royal Canadian Navy pummeled the shores of Port Angeles with naval gunnery are atypical of the many vignettes.
It was a long journey on light aircraft, floatplanes and flying with Island Airways that were the launch platform towards that ATPL and into the world of larger multi-engine longer range aircraft.
To say that Lorne has experienced the vagaries of flying north of 60 would be an understatement. There were awkward, survivable contacts with the ground; approaches under demanding conditions; flights of fancy and everything in between. His detailed recounting of events and people throughout his commercial flying with Nordair, CPA, Canadian, and even Canada 3000 will delight the reader.
You can easily sit back, read the story and reflect on what your life as an aviator has been for you.
